Are You Ahead Of The Curve?
Do you have a good feel of what’s going on in your industry? Do you know who your competitors are? Do you keep up with the latest advancements? Do you read scrapbooking publications or subscribe to informational newsletters? If not you could be losing business!
In today’s world everything moves at record paces. Business is no exception. Advances are being made everyday in every industry. Yes, even in the scrapbooking industry. There is new software, new kits, new ways of creating pages, and the list will continue to grow as the industry grows. So what do you do to keep up? Better yet, what do you do to stay ahead of the curve?
You should always be looking for a better, faster, more efficient or easier way to do things. You can’t rest on your laurels and assume that what you do is OK. If you want to move forward then you must constantly be striving to be better in some way. This means in all areas of your business. Maybe your not as good a negotiator as you would like to be. Find a book, audio or video and learn a couple of new techniques. You don’t have to do things overnight. Take just one or two things a week you would like to be better at and apply yourself to do something about it.
If you want to be more successful than your competitors then learn who they are and how they operate. Study them and see what they are doing and how they are doing it. Look at how they are getting clients, the type of advertising (if any) they are doing, check out their products and if possible talk to their clients and see what they think of them. THEN, do something different, offer something better, be creative and figure a way to do what they aren’t. Don’t just try to copy them, come up with better ideas, products or services.
Promote your business online and offline. Today we live in a global society but you live in your hometown. This means you can market in different ways to different markets. Sometimes you even use the same medium, like your website. Don’t get stuck in a rut with your marketing and advertising. In the advertising business the key to success is to test, test, test.
What kind of material are you reading these days. Do you read traditional and digital scrapbooking magazines? If not you should be. They are full of ideas, inspiration and usually provide you with a great deal of valuable information that can help your business grow. Even if you specialize in one or the other (digital or traditional) you can still gain ideas and maybe come up with a few of your own. Remember too when you subscribe or even buy single issues of publications related to the operation of your business you can write them off on your taxes so be sure to keep your receipts.
Ask your clients and prospective client what they want. This is one of the best ways to stay ahead of your competition. Knowing what a customer wants is half the battle. If you know what they want it is much easier for you to then come up with a way to provide it.
Keep up with technology. Don’t fall behind in what’s available. This doesn’t mean you have to buy every new thing that comes along but be aware of what is available and evaluate whether it will allow you to do your job better or faster. There are always new innovations that can keep you ahead.
Last but not least. Take action now! Don’t wait until tomorrow. Move forward and strive to be the best at what you do.
