How to succeed as a scrapbooking designer, artist, or consultant

How do you make money as a digital scrapbook designer?

First off we must answer the question, “What is a digital scrapbook designer View definition in a new window?” The simple answer is, it is a person who creates digital papers, elements, embellishments, quick pages, kits, etc. Can you make money as a digital scrapbook designer View definition in a new window? The quick answer is yes, and if you are very good you can make a good deal of money.

There are many people today who refer to themselves as digital scrapbook designers and the vast majority of them do not make much money. There are any number of reasons why a scrapbook designer View definition in a new window does not make a lot of money. Below I have listed just a few.

  1. They are simply not very good. This is hard to accept but in some cases it is true.
  2. They do not know how to market themselves.
  3. They do not try to market themselves.
  4. They do not have enough kits available for people to see.
  5. They are selling in the wrong place(s).

The list can go on and on but the above reasons are what I have found to be the most common reasons a scrapbook designer View definition in a new window does not reach their maximum income potential. As you can see other than natural talent the other reasons can all be fixed.

So do you have to be a great designer to make money? Well, it certainly does not hurt to have natural creative abilities but you can still make a pretty good living without being the best creative mind out there. How do you do that?

  1. BE UNIQUE - This is the best way to brand yourself and stand out from the crowd. When you look through online stores you will find hundreds of kits that are very similar in style and theme. By coming up with something new and/or different people will remember you and your designs.
  2. QUALITY CONTROL- Everything you make must be of the highest quality. If you get a reputation as having bad quality work it won’t matter how good or creative you are.
  3. STUDY YOUR COMPETITION - Look at your competitors, where are they selling, what are they selling, how do they advertise, where to they hang out, do they outsource any work, etc., etc., etc.
  4. STUDY WHAT PEOPLE LIKE - Go to galleries and see what the people are looking at and commenting on. Remember that the big part of what people like will be the page layout, however, the kit(s) used to create the layout will be valuable information to you.
  5. MARKETING - This encompasses if/when/where and how you advertise. How you name your kits, your descriptions, forums, banners, visual appeal, etc. Testing is an important part of your marketing efforts. Not all ads or methods give the same results so you must test each one and see what yields the best results.
  6. PRICING - It is unfortunate that there are so many freebies available in the digital scrapbooking industry. There is not another industry I can think of that gives so much away. The funny thing is that many of the people and sites that are giving these kits away do it just for the chance to rank high on a specific topsite. It has nothing to do with generating sales. This also forces stores to follow the practice in order to compete. Even with the flooded freebie market you can make good money if you provide excellent designs, a quality product and you price it accordingly. People will still pay more money for better kits.
  7. SELL IN THE RIGHT PLACE - It is debatable whether selling in one store or many produces better results. There are many variables that play into the debate. I will not try to cover the differences in this post except to say that selling in the right store is crucial to your success. There have been many cases where a designer sells in one store without success and moves to another store and has great success.

This should give you a good base for succeeding in the digital scrapbooking industry. There are always going to be many factors that will contribute to your success or failure at any endeavor. There are still many more for this industry but if you concentrate on the above points you will have a good chance at success.
