How to succeed as a scrapbooking designer, artist, or consultant

Digital Scrapbooking - Is It The Future?

This writer believes the simple answer to the question is YES!

Digital scrapbooking is all the rage these days for a number of reasons. With more and more people having digital cameras the trend to go digital in their scrapbooking is only natural. Many scrapbooking publishers are featuring articles and even full issues dedicated to the digital market. As software becomes cheaper and easier to use the digital scrapbooking market is expanding rapidly.

Traditional scrapbookers are finding how easy it is to create their own word art and journaling for their scrapbooks. Some have taken the plunge and actually started creating whole pages using digital products only. There are many advantages to going digital for your scrapbooking business and personal pages.

Cost

  • Other than the initial cost for the software (Adobe® Photoshop® or Photoshop® Elements, Jasc Paint Shop Pro®, Ulead PhotoImpact®, or Microsoft® Digital Image Pro, to name a few) used to create the pages the total cost per page is minuscule when compared to traditional pages.
  • When you buy a kit, papers, elements, fonts, etc. you own them and can use them over and over on multiple layouts and pages unlike traditional purchases which are used once and have to be re-purchased to use again.

Speed

  • The speed at which you can create scrapbook pages is much faster than traditional methods.

Forgiving

  • Digital scrapbooking is forgiving. If you don’t like the way it looks, change it! It won’t cost you a cent. This is not true with traditional methods which must be planned out in advance if you want a perfect page. Once the elements have been glued down on a piece of paper you are stuck with it.

Portability

  • Traditional scrapbooks are bulky and difficult to store and transport. Digital scrapbooks are printed just like any other document and can have many more pages and take up much less space.

Friends/Family

  • The chances of you mailing your traditional scrapbook to a friend or relative are slim and none while your digital creations can be emailed or uploaded to your own website or other photo hosting sites for all your friends and family to see any time they want. Not only that but as soon as you create a new page it can be available for everyone to see.

Sizes

  • You can create multiple size scrapbooks when going digital because you can resize your photos, embellishments, elements, fonts, etc.

This article is just a general overview of why creating a digital layouts is a better option in my opinion. If you would like to see the kind of layouts that can be created digitally check out the Digitals Gallery which has thousands of digital scrapbook pages.

This is a very good post and I agree with everything you have said. I do a little bit of paper scrapping because I still have so many supplies but I have found digital to be much easier, quicker and way, way cheaper!!
